Heading south from Quito, this section of the Andes forms the aptly named Avenue of Volcanoes, a string of around thirty volcanoes. The most famous of these is Cotopaxi, the world’s highest active volcano, whose national park is a great spot for walking and riding – again lodging in the area includes some beautiful hacienda options.
