Solo Travel
Travelling alone can be daunting, but it is one of the most liberating life experiences you could ever give yourself. Solo soul searching in the wilderness has never been safer with the help of our experienced specialists who regularly explore the continent on their own. From our VIP meet and greet service upon landing on African soil to curated private tours with expert local guides designed to fit your interests, let us take care of making your safari dreams come true.
Soul soothing adventure for oneA day on a solo safari can be as packed or relaxed, and as private or social as you wish. Wake up to the smell of roasted coffee served in your room and to the song of birds happily chirping as the bush comes alive from slumber. Twice-daily game drives – the highlight of your stay – are conducted in a 4x4 open vehicle shared with other wildlife-enthusiastic guests. It is also possible to pre-book a private vehicle and guide for maximum exclusivity. Afternoons can be spent between the pages of a book, or hanging out with the warm and welcoming camp staff. You can also choose to spend your time quietly jotting down an exciting experience in your travel journal, or share a meal and a drink (or two) with like-minded guests that you've made connections with. You'll definitely be brimming with safari stories that you can't wait to share.
Connecting with the wildAlthough pursuing wild animals on exhilarating game drives is certainly one of the most requested activities on safari, you can make your trip extra special with some of these unique solo-friendly experiences - row down a quiet channel in the Okavango Delta in a mokoro and challenge your guide to see who can spot the most little creatures in the bush; explore the alluring African wilderness in northern Kenya perched high atop a camel’s back; share a magical moment with our primate cousins as you trek through the verdant hills of Rwanda; or connect that much closer to wilderness by treading along the very same paths that the animals walk on, learning and observing their natural behaviours from a careful distance. There are so many possibilities and your A2A Travel Consultant will be sure to share them with you during the planning process.
You don't always have to pay moreSolo travellers generally do pay a higher cost as they are solely shouldering the total cost of lodging and guides. Since most safari camps and lodges do impose a single supplement fee, consider travelling during the leaner times of the year, from around November to May, when some properties tend to waive the supplemental cost for solo travellers. It is also a good idea to book early as some properties do put a cap on the number of single supplement fees that they will waive during a certain period.
Designing the best trip for youIt is always our priority to design the best itinerary for you and apply any ongoing special promotions to optimise your budget. An important detail that we pay great attention to is to identify the most suitable property for solo travellers so that you find yourself surrounded by like-minded people.
For female solo travellersWe especially take utmost care when it comes to our female travellers who may be particularly concerned about safety when travelling to Africa. Do let us know if you will feel more comfortable being assisted by a female guide while on safari and in the city, so that we can meet this request accordingly. For travelling by road from one place to the next, whether to a hotel or restaurant, we can arrange private transfers all throughout with our trusted partners, who are our eyes and ears on the ground. Rest assured that we will put measures in place to ensure your comfort and security.
Our team of Africa specialists have travelled all over the continent solo and are ready to provide unbiased and valuable advice based on years of experience. On your own but never alone – trip for one, anyone?
