Kunene River
Located in the extreme northwest of Namibia, the Kunene River is the only permanent water source in the region, creating a lush oasis along its banks – a winding band of green surrounded by the lunar-like landscape of the Namib Desert which stretches to the Serra Cafema mountain range in the north. Apart from excursions through this breathtaking scenery, other activities on offer here include boat trips on the Kunene River itself, with its crocodiles and amazing birdlife, visits to meet the extraordinary semi-nomadic Himba people, and guided quad bike excursions across the landscape of desert dunes.
