The Mara River flows from the Mau Forest in the Rift Valley, across 13,500 km² through Kenya and into Tanzania, before draining into Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. The river is a vital source for grazing animals nearby and, as such, forms an important part of the annual migration route that cuts a swathe through the Serengeti.
